One of the most well-known confectioneries in Lucknow has begun offering a sugary confection that is swiftly rising to prominence in the city of nawabs, just in time for the holidays. With its exquisite blend of nuts and dried fruits from around the globe and a 24 carat gold garnish, this mithai truly lives up to its name, Exotica.
Since 2009, Chhappan Bhog in Lucknow has been producing exotica. Owner Ravindra Kumar claims that this mithai was initially created at the request of a client over ten years ago. The demand for the delicacy covered in gold has only grown since then.
A wide range of nuts from all over the world are used to make exotica, including saffron from Kashmir, pine nuts from Kinnaur, macadamia from South Africa, pistachios from Afghanistan, and hazelnuts from Turkey and Iran. Each piece of this mithai is finished with a 24 carat gold garnish.
Four pieces of the mithai cost at Rs 2,000. A box of 100 pieces might cost as much as Rs 50,000.
Kumar said that larger boxes are typically purchased by consumers to give as gifts at festivals and weddings. On the other hand, the store sells three or four of the Rs 2,000 box each day. He said that a single mithai costs Rs 500 and weighs 10 grams.
