The meaning behind National Cinema Day and why purchasing a ticket for a film at Rs 99 is guaranteed
Why did rival multiplex businesses get together on National Cinema Day to provide movie tickets at a discount? Why is it being celebrated, and what does it mean to you? These are all of the solutions.
On October 13, you can see Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, and other movies in theaters for just Rs 99. And the cause is a custom that multiplexes instituted the previous year as the film industry battled with shuttered theaters and box office bombs following the outbreak. Although it may have begun as a marketing ploy to get through a rough patch, it assures moviegoers of significant savings.
Large Indian multiplex companies have joined forces to commemorate National Cinema Day, which was launched with significant ticket price cuts the previous year. However, why did rival cinema chains band together to celebrate National Cinema Day, and why is it observed? Above all, explain why this particular day holds significance for you. Continue reading for the answers we have.
Why is National Cinema Day observed, and what does it mean?
The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) came up with the original idea for National Cinema Day in 2022. National Cinema Day was created by the MAI to honor the reopening of theaters following the Covid-19 pandemic. In order to help theater owners who incurred major losses because to the Covid-19 outbreak, the group decided to provide large discounts on movie tickets on this particular day.
To offset the competition created by the growth of OTT platforms, particularly in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, is another important reason to commemorate National Cinema Day. Cinema owners are making an effort to celebrate the success of recent blockbuster movies like Jawan, Gadar 2, and OMG 2, which were crucial in drawing people back to the theaters, and to revive the magic of the big screen.
More than 4000 screens will participate in National Cinema Day this year, including well-known theaters like PVR, Inox, Cinepolis, Miraj, City Pride, Asian, Mikta A2, Movie Time, Wave, M2K, and Delite, among others.
Describe MAI?
Prominent theater operators founded the MAI in 2002 under the auspices of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). MAI is the national representative for over 11 movie chains with over 500 multiplexes and over 2500 screens. Put more simply, MAI accounts for about 75% of India’s multiplex market.
When is the celebration of National Cinema Day?
The proprietors of multiplexes have not yet decided on a set date for National Cinema Day. Following a few date adjustments, it was noted that tickets were slashed to Rs 75 on September 23 of last year. It was a huge success, with 6.5 million admissions on a single day, the most ever. It takes place on October 13 this year.
Now for the most crucial part of this post: Why should you put National Cinema Day on your calendar each year, and what’s in it for you? This year, MAI has made the incredible decision to sell movie tickets for all films starting on October 13 for just Rs 99. To slightly spoil the fun, the Rs 99 price does not include the convenience fee and GST that are added on when you buy a ticket. Furthermore, premium formats like IMAX, 4DX, and even recliner seats are not eligible for this promotion. Although it is a pan-Indian offer, states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Pondicherry, and Andhra Pradesh are not included.
Having said that, you can see current hits like Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Fukrey 3, and Mission Raniganj, starring Akshay Kumar, for this low price. PVR even revealed that food and drinks will be available for as little as Rs 99 in a recent tweet. It is noteworthy to remark that only a few cities and movie theaters are eligible for this promotion.
