Telangana is ready to inaugurate additional medical colleges, gearing up for an expansion in healthcare education.

The groundwork is laid for Telangana to welcome eight additional medical colleges in 2024-25, including locations like Jogulamba Gadwal and Warangal. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has postponed the enforcement of allocating only 100 MBBS seats per 10 lakh population until 2025-26, opening doors for the proposed medical colleges. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare requested a reevaluation of this provision, resulting in the NMC’s decision. Previously, the NMC’s move to enforce the 100 MBBS seats per 10 lakh population ratio raised concerns, particularly for smaller states like Telangana, jeopardizing their plans for new medical colleges. Now, the NMC’s decision to implement this from the academic year 2025-26 provides relief and allows Telangana to proceed with its medical education expansion plans for 2024-25, aiming to add 800 more MBBS seats.
