Tamil Superstar Vijay Launches Political Party Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam
Superstar Vijay has established a political party in Tamil Nadu, following his appointment as the leader of the Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). This move suggests his potential entry into the political arena leading up to the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Vijay’s party, named “Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam,” translates to “Tamil Nadu Victory Party.” In a statement, Vijay clarified that his party will not participate in the Lok Sabha election, and the TVK will remain neutral without endorsing any other candidate. Emphasizing his commitment to public service, Vijay expressed his intent to balance his film commitments with his political responsibilities, viewing it as a gesture of gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu.
The declaration sparked impromptu festivities among his supporters in the region renowned for producing film stars who transition into politics, such as the late stalwarts MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.
Considered the prospective successor to Rajinikanth in the Tamil film industry, Vijay, with a filmography of 68 movies, has harbored political aspirations for more than ten years. During this time, he engaged his fan clubs in various philanthropic activities, ranging from providing free food and educational scholarships to establishing libraries, evening tuition programs, and offering legal assistance.
He recently arranged a local event to recognize high-achieving students in public exams at the constituency level. During the event, he encouraged students to study leaders such as Ambedkar, Periyar, and Kamaraj, advising them to adopt positive aspects and disregard the rest.
Vijay, the son of renowned film director Chandrasekhar, is known for addressing significant societal issues in his movies and has garnered a dedicated fan base in the state. Some of his films have taken bold stances, often criticizing various governments over the years.
