Sunrisers Hyderabad Triumph Over Dinesh Karthik Scare in Historic IPL Match with 549 Runs, Clinch Victory by 25 Runs

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) narrowly avoided defeat twice in less than three weeks despite posting scores of over 270 in the 2024 IPL season. In a high-scoring match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, both teams showcased a run-fest, with a total of 549 runs scored, setting a record aggregate for an IPL match. Despite RCB’s valiant efforts, including a remarkable 35-ball 83 from Dinesh Karthik, SRH managed to defend their total of 288. RCB’s chase began aggressively, with Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli providing a strong start with a 79-run powerplay. However, despite their efforts, RCB fell short as the required run rate climbed to around 15, and a crucial wicket followed by a slow over from Mayank Markande tilted the momentum in SRH’s favor, securing their victory.

Losing Will Jacks in the following over was a double blow for RCB, adding to their woes. With the team relying on Jacks to provide impetus in the middle-order, his dismissal marked a significant setback. Despite Faf du Plessis reaching a half-century and holding his ground, he found little assistance from his teammates. Markande’s dismissal of Rajat Patidar marked a crucial turning point in the innings, regardless of Karthik’s subsequent performance.

Pat Cummins, who shone in the previous match against Mumbai with a score of 277, once again showcased his bowling prowess by dismissing du Plessis and left-hander Saurav Chauhan in the same over, effectively sealing the game. Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror took some time to settle in, but by the time they found their rhythm, the required run rate had soared to 19. Despite Lomror’s commendable performance and Anuj Rawat’s late contribution, RCB never seemed poised to chase down the target. As a result, Sunrisers now find themselves in the top four.

Earlier, Travis Head achieved his first T20 century, setting a new record for the fastest century by a Sunrisers Hyderabad player and the fourth fastest in IPL history, setting the stage for a massive total for the Orange Army. Head maintained his aggressive approach throughout his innings, reaching the century mark in just 39 balls before getting out in the 13th over. Heinrich Klaasen then continued the onslaught, scoring a fifty off 22 balls, followed by Abdul Samad’s blistering 37 off 10 balls, helping the Sunrisers reach a mammoth total of 287 runs, the highest in IPL history and the second-highest in T20 cricket.
