Sonia Gandhi Contemplating Contesting 2024 Elections in Telangana, According to Statements from Congress Leader
During a Political Affairs Committee meeting on Monday, the Telangana Congress approved a resolution urging former AICC president Sonia Gandhi to run for the Lok Sabha elections in the state. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was present at the meeting, which took place at the Telangana Congress headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan. Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka briefed the PAC members on the state’s financial condition.
After the gathering, former minister Shabbir Ali addressed the press conference, stating that the PAC (Political Affairs Committee) had unanimously approved a resolution expressing gratitude to the senior leaders who supported the party in the recent assembly polls. He mentioned that the PAC had also passed a resolution urging Sonia Gandhi to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Telangana. Ali added that a letter would be written to Sonia Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, drawing attention to the historical precedent of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi contesting from Medak. Each state minister is set to be assigned as the in-charge of a specific Lok Sabha constituency for the upcoming general elections.
Furthermore, Ali noted that two of the “six guarantees” promised by the party upon coming to power have already been implemented, and Revanth Reddy will soon provide details on when the remaining guarantees will be fulfilled. He mentioned the formation of a committee to ensure the participation of approximately 50,000 leaders and party members from Telangana in the 139th Congress Foundation Day event scheduled for December 28 in Nagpur. The meeting, chaired by AICC Telangana in-charge Manikrao Thakre, was attended by Chief Minister Reddy and several cabinet colleagues.
