Revanth Reddy is sworn in as the Chief Minister of Telangana, with Bhatti Vikramarka assuming the role of Deputy Chief Minister.

Revanth Reddy assumed the role of Chief Minister of Telangana after 1:04 pm at LB Stadium in Hyderabad, marking three days since the Congress secured a significant mandate to establish the government in the nation’s newest state. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Parliamentary Party Chief Sonia Gandhi, and other leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, showcasing the opposition bloc’s strength in INDIA. However, the Congress faced setbacks as it suffered substantial defeats in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

Revanth Reddy has become the first Congress Chief Minister of Telangana and the second Chief Minister of the state since its creation in 2014 after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. In a significant victory, the Congress secured 64 out of 119 assembly seats, achieving a clear majority.

Prime Minister Modi extended his congratulations to Revanth Reddy on his swearing-in and pledged complete support for the state’s development. In a tweet, PM Modi said, “Congratulations to Shri Revanth Reddy Garu on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Telangana. I assure all possible support to further the progress of the state and the welfare of its citizens. @revanth_anumula.”

The team under Revanth Reddy includes a list of ministers who took the oath on Thursday, with Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu being appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister.

The Congress raised concerns about the criticism they faced for the perceived delay in announcing the Chief Minister for Telangana, noting that their CM was declared and inaugurated within 24 hours of the election results on December 3rd. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh questioned why the BJP, despite winning in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, had not yet announced its Chief Ministers even after three days. Ramesh emphasized that the BJP’s delay in declaring CMs in the three states should also be questioned, pointing out the apparent inconsistency in media scrutiny.

Revanth Reddy, credited for the Congress’s significant victory in Telangana, has initiated the fulfillment of the party’s promises as the new Chief Minister. One of the initial actions was the removal of the iron barricades outside the CM’s residence in Hyderabad, a commitment he made to the public during the election campaign. This step marks the beginning of the implementation of the party’s six promises, which include initiatives such as free travel for women in Telangana State Road Transport Corporation buses, akin to the system in Karnataka.
