Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi are set to commence filming for Ramayana in March, with reports suggesting that Yash will play a significant role as Raavan.
Nitesh Tiwari is set to direct a film adaptation of the Ramayana, reportedly featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Raavan. The epic is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2025, with filming expected to commence in February/March 2024. Yash is slated to join the Ramayana team in July after completing a significant portion of his upcoming film, Toxic, according to a recent report from Pinkvilla.
Filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari, known for his National Award-winning work, is set to commence shooting for his upcoming project based on the world of Ramayana. The entire Ramayana universe has been meticulously crafted, with Oscar-winning VFX company DNEG handling both the design and production of this epic film. The production team aims to bring a new dimension to filmmaking through innovative technology, and extensive pre-production work, including 3D scans and look tests, has been completed with the three main leads: Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash. The film is scheduled to go into production in March next year.
Yash, known for his role in KGF, has an expanded role in the first part, and in the upcoming second part, the focus will be on his character Raavan. In June, there were reports that Yash declined the role of Raavan in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, citing his awareness of his fans’ expectations. Additionally, Ranbir Kapoor is set to visit DNEG’s Los Angeles office in early next year as part of the pre-production process for Ramayana.
According to the source, Yash will have an extended role in “Ramayana: Part One,” focused on building the story of Ram and Sita, along with the introduction of Hanuman’s character. The second part will delve into the arc of Raavan’s character, and Yash is eagerly anticipating his involvement in Nitesh Tiwari’s rendition of this auspicious tale. Yash was deeply impressed by the visuals and the sincerity with which Nitesh plans to narrate the Ramayana to today’s audience. Technical rehearsals are scheduled in LA in January 2024, requiring Yash to spend a few weeks in the US for pre-visualization.
Reportedly, “Ramayana: Part One” is set to be released in the latter half of 2025, and discussions with actor Sunny Deol for the role of Hanuman are underway. However, Sunny Deol is said to be undecided about accepting the role. Earlier reports suggested that Alia Bhatt is considered for the role of Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s directorial.
