Gautam Gambhir Resigns From The Lucknow Super Giants And Reveals The Name Of His New IPL Team
Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian cricketer, has officially parted ways with the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and rejoined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a team he led to two titles. The announcement of Gambhir’s return to KKR was made by the team’s CEO, Venky Mysore, who appointed Gambhir as a mentor. The co-owner of Knight Riders, Shah Rukh Khan, enthusiastically welcomed the decision, referring to it as the ‘return of their captain.’ Gambhir, too, expressed his emotions as the move from LSG to KKR was confirmed.
Gambhir had been serving as a mentor for Lucknow Super Giants for two years, contributing to their journey to the IPL 2022 final. Despite finishing third in the 2023 campaign, LSG couldn’t secure a spot in the final for the second consecutive year.
In his farewell message to Lucknow Super Giants, Gambhir took to Twitter, expressing gratitude and love for everyone involved in the journey. He thanked Dr. Sanjiv Goenka for his inspiring leadership in establishing the franchise and supporting Gambhir in various endeavors. Gambhir expressed confidence that the LSG team would achieve great success in the future, making their fans proud.
In his return statement, Gambhir expressed, “I’m not usually sentimental, and not much stirs me emotionally. However, this is an exception. It feels like I’m returning to where it all began. Today, there’s a lump in my throat and a fiery passion in my heart at the thought of donning that purple and gold jersey once again. I’m not just rejoining KKR; I’m returning to the city of joy. I’m back. I’m eager. I’m wearing the number 23. Ami KKR.”
Welcoming Gambhir back to KKR, Shah Rukh Khan remarked, “Gautam has always been a part of our family, and now he returns in a different role as a ‘Mentor.’ His absence was keenly felt, and now we eagerly anticipate Chandu Sir and Gautam instilling the indomitable spirit and sportsmanship they represent, creating magic with Team KKR.”
