Five states’ election commissions will today publish their election dates.

Today, the Election Commission will reveal the calendar for the assembly elections that will take place in five states. According to news Trust of India, the Commission will announce the dates for the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram at a news conference this afternoon. The Elecion Commission recently finished evaluating the five states’ poll readiness.

The election calendar is typically made public by the Election Commission six to eight weeks before the end of the current legislative session. In December or January, the terms of the legislative assemblies in Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, and Rajasthan come to a close.

Following its setback in the Karnataka assembly elections earlier this year, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will face a significant challenge in the next state elections. Also scheduled for next year are the Lok Sabha elections.

Madhya Pradesh is governed by the BJP, while Telangana is governed by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). In Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the Congress is in charge. The northeastern state is governed by the Mizo National Front.

The recently visited states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are up for election. The prime minister is Narendra Modi.

With a vote share of 41.5%, the Congress won 114 of the 230 seats in the 2018 elections, while the BJP finished in second place with 109 seats. But in 2020, the BJP regained power with Shivraj Singh Chouhan as the chief minister when some MLAs from a faction led by Jyotiraditya Scindia quit and joined it. As a result, the Congress government lost its majority.

The Congress was the largest party in Rajasthan after the 2018 elections, winning 99 seats but falling short of securing a majority by one seat. But after forming an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party and receiving support from independent MLAs, Congress established the state administration. The BJP had won 73 seats.

In the 2018 assembly election, Telangana is expected to see a triangular struggle between the BJP, the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi, and the Congress.

BRS won 88 seats out of 119 in the last Assembly election, which was held in 2018, with a commanding vote share of 47.4%. With 19 members, Congress had placed a distant second.

With a vote percentage of 43.9% in Chhattisgarh, Congress won 68 of the state’s 90 seats in the 2018 elections. With 15 seats, the BJP came in a distant second.

With a vote share of 37.8%, the Mizo National Front was able to take home 26 seats in the 40-seat Mizoram Assembly.
