Atal Dulloo has been appointed as the new chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir by the Central government.

An IAS officer from the 1988 batch will assume the position on December 1 after the retirement of the current chief secretary, Arun Kumar Mehta.

On Wednesday, the central government designated Atal Dulloo, a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official, as the incoming chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, effective from December 1.

Dulloo, a 1988-batch officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, is set to assume the position of chief secretary, succeeding the retiring Arun Kumar Mehta, who is also a 1988-batch AGMUT cadre officer. Mehta is scheduled to retire on Thursday.

Currently serving as the secretary in the department of border management under the Union home ministry, Dulloo has previously held various roles in Jammu and Kashmir, including additional chief secretary and financial commissioner, before being transferred from the region. He is the most senior officer in Jammu and Kashmir after Mehta.

Recognized as a capable administrator, Dulloo played a crucial role in managing the Covid pandemic in Jammu and Kashmir in 2020 and 2021. His efforts included enhancing healthcare infrastructure and ensuring an ample supply of oxygen cylinders for patients in the Union Territory.
