Over 60 Delhi Schools Close Early Due to Bomb Threat, No Incidents Detected in Searches
Multiple schools in Delhi and Noida were evacuated following the receipt of bomb threats via email. Police personnel are currently conducting extensive search operations on the premises. As of now, no suspicious items have been discovered.
“We are implementing necessary protocols at the affected schools in response to the bomb threats. I urge parents to remain calm, as no signs of danger have been detected,” stated Suman Nalwa, spokesperson for the Delhi Police, in an interview with NDTV.
The Delhi Police is currently striving to trace the IP address of the threatening email; however, as of now, identifying the sender’s location remains elusive.
The police reported a widespread hoax involving a mass email sent to numerous schools, causing panic. The Cyber Cell Unit is actively working to trace the email and its IP address. Schools such as Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Mother Mary School in Mayur Vihar, and Delhi Public School in Dwarka were among the first to receive the threatening emails, followed by nearly 60 others. The emails claimed the presence of explosives on campus.
Mother Mary School, currently conducting an exam, had to halt proceedings midway due to search operations. The school declared an emergency, urging everyone to evacuate immediately. Delhi Public School, in a communication to parents, disclosed the receipt of a threatening email impacting student safety. As a precautionary step, the school decided to send students home without delay.
The school grounds were cleared out following notification to the local police. Footage from the schools depicted parents hurrying to collect their children. Bomb detection units, disposal teams, and Delhi Fire Service officials were swiftly dispatched to the schools. As a precautionary measure, some schools without threats also released students early. Delhi’s Education Minister, Atishi, verified the situation, stating that no suspicious items have been discovered in any of the schools so far.
Atishi provided an update on recent bomb threats targeting several schools this morning. The students have been safely evacuated, and the premises are currently being inspected by the Delhi Police. As of now, no suspicious items have been discovered in any of the schools. We are maintaining close communication with the authorities and the schools. Atishi urges parents and citizens to remain calm and reassures them that school officials will keep them informed as necessary.
