Sachin Tendulkar reminisces on India’s 2011 World Cup win: 13 years later

On the 13th anniversary of India’s historic 2011 ODI World Cup win, Sachin Tendulkar fondly reminisced about the monumental triumph. April 2 marks a significant day for Indian cricket, as it marks the end of a 28-year wait since their first World Cup victory in 1983, with the Men in Blue securing their second title.

On this day in 2011, India emerged victorious in the prestigious cricket event held at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, cheered on by their home crowd. Gautam Gambhir and then-captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni played crucial innings, leading India to victory against Sri Lanka. Sachin Tendulkar, expressing gratitude for the memories and support, shared a photo from the trophy moment on social media. Dhoni’s memorable six sealed the win with 10 balls remaining. This victory was particularly special for Sachin, who had waited since 1992 to lift the World Cup, having missed out on previous occasions. Harbhajan Singh and BCCI secretary Jay Shah also celebrated India’s triumph, acknowledging the contributions of players like Gambhir, Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, and the entire team. The victory marked the end of India’s 28-year World Cup drought, sparking euphoria across the nation.
