“Maldives MP, Formerly Critical of PM Modi, Extends Birthday Wishes to S Jaishankar”
A Maldivian Member of Parliament, previously criticized for comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has extended birthday wishes to Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter), Zahid Rameez expressed, “Happy Birthday to the esteemed Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar! Wishing you a year filled with success and positive diplomatic endeavors.”
Prime Minister Modi’s widely shared snorkeling post has sparked discussions on social media, with users proposing the Union Territory of 36 islands as a potential alternative tourist destination to the Maldives.
While many applaud the initiative, some express skepticism, like Zahid Rameez who previously commented on X, stating, “The initiative is commendable, but the notion of competing with us is unrealistic. How can they match the level of service we provide? Will they be able to maintain the same level of cleanliness? The lingering odor in the rooms could be a significant drawback.”
Mariya Ahmed Didi, a former defense minister and prominent figure in the Maldivian opposition party MNP, criticized the ruling People’s National Congress for risking a longstanding relationship and labeled India as the Maldives’ “911 call.” This comes amid concerns that the political developments might strain ties. On social media, some Indians reported canceling their planned vacations to the Maldives, a nation known for its numerous islands and upscale resorts.
