“Putin Extends Best Wishes for Success in Lok Sabha Polls”

In anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha election next year, Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed his well-wishes for the success of the event. During a meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, Putin emphasized the enduring and friendly ties between Moscow and New Delhi, irrespective of the political landscape. Putin also extended an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia.

Regarding the developments in Ukraine, Putin mentioned that he had discussed the matter with Prime Minister Modi on multiple occasions. He noted that he had advised the Prime Minister on the situation in Ukraine and expressed confidence that Modi is committed to pursuing peaceful resolutions. This indicates an ongoing dialogue between India and Russia on the issue.

The President of Russia expressed satisfaction with the positive progression of the relationship with India amidst global turmoil. He welcomed the prospect of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting Russia to discuss relevant issues and the future of the bilateral relationship. The Russian President conveyed his greetings to Prime Minister Modi through Dr. Jaishankar, expressing the desire to see him, while acknowledging India’s busy political schedule due to upcoming parliamentary elections.

Referring to the Ukraine conflict, India has consistently advocated for a resolution through dialogue. Despite engaging with both President Putin and President Zelensky, India maintains a neutral stance and has resisted Western pressure to align against Moscow. Even in the face of global criticism, India continued to purchase Russian oil after Western sanctions were imposed. Dr. Jaishankar highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s directive to prioritize actions benefiting India, emphasizing the need to build international relations while safeguarding national interests.

The External Affairs Minister has consistently raised concerns about Europe’s prioritization of its energy requirements, questioning why India should be expected to behave differently. He emphasized that every country is striving to secure optimal deals for its citizens and mitigate the effects of soaring energy prices, asserting that India is no exception in pursuing its national interests.
