UP During treatment, a woman who was unintentionally shot inside a police station died; the cop fled.

A tragic incident occurred in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman lost her life on Thursday after being accidentally shot by a police official inside a police station. The victim, 52-year-old Ishrat Nigar, was undergoing treatment at JN Hospital of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). The unfortunate incident took place on December 8 when sub-inspector Manoj Kumar Sharma accidentally discharged his firearm while inspecting it, resulting in Ishrat Nigar being shot in the head. The woman had visited the Kotwali police station to complete her passport verification process.

Instantly, the woman tumbled to the floor, prompting her family members and other authorities to quickly approach her. According to media accounts, she was subsequently transported to a hospital and was reported to be in a critical state.

As per the Aligarh police, the law enforcement officer responsible for firing the shot has been promptly suspended, and an immediate criminal case has been filed against them. Additionally, they reported that they are currently scrutinizing the footage of the incident as part of the ongoing investigation.

A group of medical experts is conducting a post-mortem examination on an individual who tragically lost their life in unforeseen circumstances. The legal proceedings are underway, and the Aligarh police have extended their condolences to the bereaved family. Kalanidhi Naithani, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Aligarh, assured that the law and order situation is currently stable.

A surveillance video capturing the incident circulated on social media. The footage depicts Ishrat Nigar entering the police station accompanied by her son and waiting. Subsequently, a police officer approached Sub-Inspector Sharma, who was positioned behind a desk, and handed him a loaded revolver. While cleaning the pistol, the sub-inspector accidentally discharged a round, resulting in Nigar collapsing to the ground.

“At the Kotwali Nagar police station, a nearby woman sustained injuries from a gunshot discharged by Inspector Manoj Sharma under undisclosed circumstances. Directives have been issued to file a case, and the accused Inspector has been promptly suspended. Legal actions have been initiated, as stated in a post by the Aligarh police department, quoting the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).”
