Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will witness the swearing-in of their new Chief Ministers today, with Prime Minister Modi expected to be in attendance.

Mohan Yadav and Vishnu Deo Sai, the newly appointed Chief Ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, respectively, are scheduled to be sworn in on Wednesday, in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and other senior BJP leaders. The announcement of these unconventional choices for chief ministers put an end to the suspense surrounding the selection. Speculations now arise regarding the cabinet positions, with expectations that they will be clarified during today’s swearing-in ceremonies in the two states. Additionally, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma is set to take the oath on December 15.
Mohan Yadav, the newly appointed Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh at the age of 58, has surprised many with his selection. A three-time MLA and a prominent leader of the Other Backward Classes (OBC), Yadav is closely associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). His political journey began in 2013 when he was first elected as an MLA from Ujjain South, and he successfully retained the constituency in both 2018 and 2023. With a background in law, business administration, and a PhD, Yadav previously served as the Higher Education Minister in Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s cabinet.
Accompanying Yadav are two deputy chief ministers, Jagdish Devda and Rajendra Shukla, while Narendra Singh Tomar assumes the role of Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker. Chouhan, who led the BJP to a significant victory in Madhya Pradesh, expressed confidence in Yadav’s leadership, asserting that the state will continue to progress under his guidance. In a departure from his position, Chouhan emphasized his commitment to the party’s goals, stating that he would rather face dire consequences than seek personal favors in Delhi. Vishnu Deo Sai, aged 59, is set to become the inaugural tribal chief minister of Chhattisgarh, surprising many as he lacked a prominent public profile. A former Union minister and MP with extensive experience in electoral politics and grassroots work, Sai was not initially considered a front-runner for the position. The BJP, which secured the state from the Congress, took a week to decide on the chief ministerial and deputy chief ministerial appointments. Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao will serve as deputies to Vishnu Deo Sai, while former chief minister Raman Singh will take on the role of Speaker. The party introduced a fresh lineup of leaders, deviating from the anticipated names circulating in public discourse.
