1132 Personnel to Receive Gallantry Medals on the 75th Republic Day – Unveiling the Details.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced the rationalization and consolidation of 16 gallantry and service medals into four medals, according to a statement.”
In anticipation of the 75th Republic Day, the government declared the yearly gallantry and service awards on Thursday, presenting medals to 1132 individuals from diverse agencies such as the police, fire service, home guards, civil defense, and correction service.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced the consolidation and streamlining of 16 gallantry and service medals into four distinct categories: President’s Medal for Gallantry (PMG), Medal for Gallantry (GM), President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PMG), and Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM), as stated in an official MHA statement.”
A total of 277 gallantry medals have been declared across two categories, comprising 275 Medals for Gallantry and two President’s Medals for Gallantry. Out of these, 133 individuals are being honored for courageous deeds in Jammu and Kashmir, 119 for actions in regions affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE), and the remaining 25 for actions in other areas.
The two President’s Medals for Gallantry are specifically awarded to personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF).
Medals will be conferred for Distinguished Service to 102 individuals, with 94 allotted to police personnel and four each for fire service and civil defence. Additionally, 753 individuals will be honored with the Medal for Meritorious Service, comprising 667 police personnel, 32 from the fire service, and 27 each from civil defence and correctional service.
